The Brady Brady Presentation Program

Check out what we did with the 3M Post-it Literacy tour here!

What Is It?

The Co-creators of the Brady Brady series may be available to visit your school. Mary Shaw (author) and Chuck Temple (illustrator) will help motivate and encourage your students to read, write and create - supporting you in your efforts to promote language/art literacy at the elementary level.

Two separate, unique presentations are available, with emphasis placed on either language literacy (author) or language/visual literacy (illustrator).

The presentation type depends on the speaker requested and availability.

Where Do They Visit?

The majority of visits take place in the regions closest to where they reside. Shaw regularly visits schools in St. Louis, U.S.A. and Temple visits schools in Southern Ontario. The visits may not be restricted to these areas. Periodic "regional tours" take place. It is best to contact us to see if a presentation is possible at your location.

Email us or contact us at 519-590-5949 or 1-888-590-5949 to inquire.

Group Size

The size of the group is determined by the school's needs and preference. Typically, several classes participate at a time (approximately 75 children). There are often two sessions - one before recess, and one following. This way, both Primary and Junior divisions can be accommodated. The size of the group will determine the venue. Presentations have been given in the school library or in the gym.

Cost

There is a nominal fee. For one presentation, the cost is $300+GST CDN. If a second presentation is required or requested on the same date and in succession, the fee is $400+GST CDN for both presentations. Additional expenses may apply if there is significant travel to a location. It is best to contact us for a costing.

Don't Forget To Order Books !

To make the experience really complete, we suggest you encourage students to order Brady Brady books in advance of the presentation. (approximately 2 weeks is suggested) Bulk order pricing is available for orders of 30 books or more. Use the convenient orders available in the School Book Order Section of this site. It’s as easy as 1-2-3-4.

During presentation day, students can get their books signed!

A $6.00 shipping fee applies for all bulk orders to destinations in Canada. All applicable taxes are included. Orders ship within 24 – 48 hours
of receiving the order.

A Lesson In Cartooning

Teachers from a school art program can incorporate a lesson in cartooning into their curriculum. Chuck Temple (Brady Brady's illustrator) is available to facilitate workshops. As an experienced, qualified teacher, Chuck Temple knows how to effectively deliver curriculum. The cost is based on an $100.00/hour fee, plus travel expenses and GST. Please note that the school is responsible for all required supplies used in the workshop. You can tentatively book a cartooning lesson by completing the Presentation Request Form.

What Are People Saying About the Presentation Program?

"
I am a teacher at a K to 8 school in Cambridge. Our primary students were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr. Temple in January of this year! It is now almost April and the kids are STILL talking about "Chuck Temple." The visit was great! The primary students sat quietly (and interested!) through the entire presentation, asked some questions at the end and took advantage of the opportunity to purchase their own books. These signed "treasures" are often brought to school and shared with their friends! The fact that they are still excited months later is proof of how great the books are.

All of us at Woodland Park would highly recommend Brady Brady books to anyone!"

- Woodland Park School, Cambridge, ON Canada

"Since literacy is a focus at St. Luke Catholic School, we were very happy to welcome Chuck Temple as a guest presenter. Chuck has a great rapport with children and his illustrations were a big hit. We hope to have him back again soon."

- Liz Degutis, Former Principal,
St. Luke Catholic School, Waterloo

"Chuck Temple visited Howard Robertson Public School on March 20, 2002. He did a lively presentation for our Gr. 4 and 5 students about the writing process and demonstrated his drawing skills. The students thoroughly enjoyed his informative show and continue to enjoy the 4 Brady Brady books that are now part of our library collection. Chuck is a very gifted illustrator and knows how to speak to students at a level that they can understand. We feel fortunate to have had him visit us and hope that other students in the region will get the same opportunity."

- Jamie Groh, Teacher-librarian,
Howard Robertson Public School, Kitchener, Ontario.

"Imagine sixty children sitting quietly and fully captivated by a guest-speaker. That is what Chuck Temple and his books did for the primary classes at both Crestview and Lackner Woods Schools in Kitchener, Ontario. On a dreary morning in February two classes at a time were delighted to hear and see all of the antics of Brady Brady and his friends. The children were thrilled to see the pictures created by a real, live illustrator. Chuck's presentation helped the children realize how an author, publisher and illustrator work closely to create a book. The students were motivated to try their hand at illustrating and they still remember his message to Practise! Practise! Practise!"

- Sue Abson-Thorpe, Teacher-Librarian, Lackner Woods Public School, Crestview Public School, Stanley Park Public School
